Maritime Labour Convention - MLC 2006
The ILO's Maritime Labour Convention (MLC), 2006 oulines the rights at work for the seafarers globally. The Convention establishes measure that ensure decent work for seafarers and safeguards economic interests in a fair competition for quality shipowners. As vast percentage of world trade is carried on ships therefore seafarers are essential to international trade and the international economic and trade system. The MLC 2006 consolidates more than 68 international labour regulations affecting the Maritime sector adopted over the last 80 years.
The Convention establishes decent conditions of work and it is to be globally applicable and uniformly enforced. It has been designed to become a global tool known as the "fourth pillar" of the international regulatory regime for quality shipping, complementing the key Conventions of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
Ultrasonic Tightness Testing
Modern and Innovative non-destructive tightness testing, applicable to hatch covers, doors, ramps, covers, windows, bulkheads or any other on-board or offshore related tightness control.
State of the art SHERLOG TA Equipment by SDT International and type approved by Lloyd's Register, ABS, DNV, Russian Register and Hellenic Register.
This already proven method has numerous advantages compared to the traditional hose tests:
- Required by all major P&I Clubs and Insurers due to its high trustworthiness and precise reflection of the tightness condition of hatch covers
- Totally eliminates the risk of contamination or damage of water-sensitive cargoes
- Eliminates the risk of causing pollution from liquids on the deck being washed into the sea
- Tracing of areas which lack of compression is far more accurate due to the directional properties of ultrasounds, unlike in hose tests where the precise point causing the leak is sometimes difficult to spot
- Testing is possible in either empty or loaded holds
